Getting Around
Hong Kong's efficient Mass Transit Railway (MTR) system, comprehensive bus network,
and ferries to outlying islands will take you almost anywhere you need to go. A prepaid
Octopus card can be used on most forms of public transport in Hong Kong. For shorter
stays, buy a one-day or three-day pass for unlimited rides on the MTR. They are available
at any MTR station.
MTR
Hong Kong's subway and train system covers most of the city and is the easiest way to get
around; most lines run from 6am to midnight.
Bus
Extensive network and ideal for short rides; most lines run from 6am to midnight.
Tram
Runs on the northern strip of Hong Kong Island. Slow but great views; runs from 6am to
midnight.
Ferry
Star Ferry connects Hong Kong Island and Kowloon through the scenic harbour; runs from
6.30am to 11.30pm. More modern ferry fleets run between Central and outlying islands.
