Tourist Information
The very efficient and friendly Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB;
www.discoverhongkong.com ) produces reams of useful pamphlets and publications. Its website is
also a good point of reference.
There are HKTB branches at Hong Kong International Airport (
7am-11pm) , the Star
Ferry Concourse (B4;
8am-8pm) in Tsim Sha Tsui and the Peak Piazza (
9am-9pm) at
Victoria Peak. Alternatively, call the HKTB Visitor Hotline (
9am-6pm ) if
2508 1234;
you have a query or problem or if you're lost; you'll find staff eager to help.
Travellers with Disabilities
Disabled people will have to cope with MTR stairs as well as pedestrian overpasses, nar-
row footpaths and steep hills. People whose sight or hearing is impaired must be cautious
of Hong Kong's demon drivers. On the other hand, some stairs in MTR stations and most
buses are now accessible by wheelchair, taxis are never hard to find, and most buildings
have lifts (many with Braille panels). Wheelchairs can negotiate the lower decks of most
of the ferries, and almost all public toilets now have access for the disabled.
Hong Kong Society for Rehabilitation ( 3143 2800; www.accessguide.hk ) has a website that
offers practical information for travellers with disabilities.
