In-Depth Information
Metro
Best for … most urban destinations.
The Mass Transit Railway (MTR; 2881 8888; www.mtr.com.hk ; fares $4-25; 6am-midnight or
1am) has 10 lines, including the Airport Express line ( Click here ) . Ticket machines accept
notes and coins and dispense change.
The longer-distance MTR East Rail line, which runs from Hung Hom station to Lo Wu
or Lok Ma Chau on the mainland border, and the West Rail line, which links East Tsim
Sha Tsui station with Tuen Mun in the New Territories, offer the fastest route to the New
Territories.
Minibus
Best for … rural destinations without any MTR stations nearby.
Also known as 'public light buses', minibuses seat up to 16 people. Small red
'minibuses' ($2 to $22) don't run regular routes; you can get on or off by request unless
restricted by road rules. Green 'maxicabs' make designated stops.
Taxi
Best for … late hours when the MTR has stopped running and traffic is light.
Hong Kong taxis are a bargain compared to taxis in other world-class cities. Some
sample fares:
ROUTE
FARE
Central MTR station to Causeway Bay $40
Central MTR station to Victoria Peak
$50
Central MTR station to Tsim Sha Tsui

Tsim Sha Tsui to Sai Kung
