Bus
Best for … rural destinations without any MTR stations nearby.
Hong Kong's extensive bus system runs from 5.30 or 6am to midnight or 12.30am, with
night-bus service from 12.45am to 5am, and goes just about everywhere in the territory.
You will need exact change or an Octopus card ( Click here ) .
Central's most important terminal for buses is below Exchange Square (F3). In Kowloon
the Star Ferry bus terminal (B4) has buses heading up Nathan Rd and to the Hung Hom
train station.
City Bus and New World First Bus ( www.nwstbus.com.hk ) and Kowloon Motor Bus
( www.kmb.hk ) provide user-friendly route searching on their websites.
Ferry
Best for … crossing Victoria Harbour from Central to Tsim Sha Tsui or vice versa.
There are two Star Ferry routes. The more popular is the one running between Central
(Outlying Islands ferry terminal, pier 7;, G1) and Tsim Sha Tsui (B4). Fares are $2/3
(lower/upper deck). The Star Ferry also links Wan Chai with Tsim Sha Tsui. For more on

Two separate ferry companies operate services to the outlying islands, including Lantau,
Cheung Chau and Lamma, from ferry terminal piers 4, 5 and 6 (F1) in Central: New World
First Ferry Services Ltd ( www.nwff.com.hk ) and Hong Kong & Kowloon Ferry Ltd
( www.hkkf.com.hk ) .
