In-Depth Information
If you take cross-border buses from Guangdong to Hong Kong, you'll need to alight
from and reboard the buses before and after going through customs in Lo Wu or Lok Ma
Chau. Almost all buses stop near MTR stations so you can either change to MTR or taxi,
depending on your destination. Check CTS Express Coach ( http://ctsbus.hkcts.com ) and
Trans-Island Limousine Service ( www.trans-island.com.hk ) for departure and arrival points of
cross-border buses.
Macau Ferry Terminal
You can reach Hong Kong from Macau and Guangdong by frequent ferry services. Ma-
cau to Hong Kong: Turbojet ( www.turbojet.com.hk ) and Cotai Jet ( www.cotaijet.com.mo ) . Guang-
dong to Hong Kong: Chu Kong Passenger Transportation Company ( www.cksp.com.hk ) .
You will arrive in Hong Kong either at the Hong Kong-Macau Ferry Terminal or the
China Ferry Terminal. The former is located next to the Sheung Wan MTR station, which
is stops away from destinations on Hong Kong Island. The China Ferry Terminal is a
15-minute walk from Tsim Sha Tsui MTR station.
Travel Passes
The Octopus card ( www.octopuscards.com ) is a rechargeable 'smart card' valid on the MTR and most forms of
public transport in Hong Kong. It even allows you to make purchases at retail outlets across the territory. It costs
$150 ($70 for children and seniors), which includes a $50 refundable deposit and $100 worth of travel. Octopus
fares are about 5% cheaper than ordinary ones on the MTR. You can buy a card and recharge at any MTR station.
For shorter stays there's the new MTR Tourist Day Pass ($55), valid on the MTR for 24 hours after the first
use.
