Exploring Taipa & Coloane Islands
Taipa was created from two islands joined together by silt from the Pearl River.
Land reclamation has succeeded in doing the same thing to Taipa and Coloane,
now joined by the Cotai Strip, 'Cotai' being a portmanteau of Coloane and
Taipa. Scenic Taipa has rapidly urbanised, though you'll still find old shops
alongside delicious Macanese eateries. The small island of Coloane was once a
haven for pirates but today largely retains Macau's old way of life.
