Tian Tan Buddha
At 23m (10 storeys), Tian Tan Buddha on Ngong Ping Plat-
eau, Lantau island, 500m above sea level, is the world's
tallest seated bronze Buddha statue. In fact 'Big Buddha' is
so big you can see it on the plane flying into Hong Kong,
and, on a clear day, from Macau. Hikers negotiating the
slopes of Lantau are often caught off-guard by 'Big
Buddha' looming suddenly into view like an idea in a stark
blue sky, or shrouded in fog like an afterthought.
