High Island Reservoir East Dam Trail (3-5 hours)
Surreal and dramatic, High Island Reservoir East Dam has massive dolosse (anchor-
shaped blocks), slanting volcanic columns and sapphire waters. Five-hour route: take
bus 94 from Sai Kung town to Pak Tam Chung, walk to East Dam (9km, two hours
via Tai Mong Tsai & Man Yee Rds), hike the trail (1km, 30 minutes) then walk back.
Three-hour route (advised): taxi from Sai Kung to East Dam ($130, 25 minutes), hike
the trail and walk to Pak Tam Chung.
Tai Long Wan Trail (4 hours)
This moderately challenging 12km trail passes delicious, swim-worthy bays (Sai
Wan, Ham Tin, Chek Keng). Take bus 29R at Chan Man Rd (Sai Kung town), disem-
barking at the last stop, Sai Wan Ting; or take a taxi ($110). From the exit in Pak
Tam Au, minibuses go back to Sai Kung.
Bride's Pool - Lai Chi Wo (-; 4½ hours)
This challenging 12km heritage and biodiversity trail passes mangrove forests and a
huge Hakka village backed by an ancient 'feng shui' wood. Bride's Pool is a pool
hemmed in by rocks below a waterfall. Route: Bride's Pool - Wu Kau Tang - Sam A
Tsuen - Lai Chi Wo - Fan Shui Au - Bride's Pool Rd. At the bus terminus at Tai Po
Market MTR station, catch bus 75K to Tai Mei Tuk terminus, and from there, cab it
to Bride's Pool ($80).
Shing Mun Reservoir Trail (3 hours)
This easy 9.5km trail loops around Shing Mun Reservoir, passing a dappled country
park and a valley with a gushing stream, into silent, almost magical, paper-bark
forests. Take minibus 82 to Shiu Wo St (Tsuen Wan) and walk 20 minutes to Pine-
apple Dam. Go back the same way.
