This is an 88-year-old branch of the Chin Woo Athletic Association, founded 100 years ago
in Shanghai by the famed kung-fu master Huo Yuanjia. The Shanghai Chin Woo was fea-
tured in Bruce Lee's Fist of Fury and Jet Li's Fearless in which Li played the master him-
self. There are classes that are open to overseas visitors but instructors teach mainly in
Cantonese. You can visit the school during opening hours. (

MARKET

Split into two parts by the loop formed by Battery St, this market has hundreds of stalls.
The jade knick-knacks on sale here make great mementos and presents; unless you really
know your nephrite from your jadeite, though, it's not wise to buy expensive pieces here.

Local Life
Shanghai Street
Strolling down Shanghai Street (B4; Yau Ma Tei, exit C) starting from Kansu St will take you back to a time
long past. Once Kowloon's main drag, it's flanked by stores selling embroidered Chinese bridal gowns, sandal-
wood incense, kitchenware, Buddha statues, a pawn shop (at the corner of Saigon St), and mah-jong parlours (see
the boxed text Click here ). It's a great place to shop for unusual souvenirs or a Buddhist home shrine if you ever
need one. For a break, nip across Nathan Rd via an underground walkway for low-price, high-quality staples at
Nathan Congee and Noodle ( Click here ) .
