Busy Lan Fong Yuen (1952) is a cha chaan tang serving pseudo-Western food to those
who couldn't afford the real deal. It's said to have invented the strong and silky 'panty-
hose milk tea', more than a thousand cups of which are sold daily alongside pork-chop
buns, tossed noodles and other hasty tasties. Due to its small size and low prices there's a
cover charge of $20. (

Gay-Friendly Bars
While Hong Kong's gay scene may not have the visibility of that of New York, it's made huge strides. When ho-
mosexual acts between consenting adults were decriminalised in 1991, there were only a couple of speakeasies.
Today there are some 30 bars and clubs. DYMK (C4; 16 Arbuthnot Rd, Central; 6pm-4am; Central, exit
D2) caters to discerning professionals lounging in stylishly lit booths. T:me (B2; www.time-bar.com ;
6pm-2am Mon-Sat; Central, exit D2), in an alley off Hollywood Rd, is tiny but chic. Cocktail bar Volume
(A2; 83-85 Hollywood Rd, Central; 6pm-4am; Central, exit D2) pumps out sounds from '80s hits to the
latest dance genres. See free monthly gay magazine Dim Sum ( http://dimsum-hk.com ) for listings.
