Currently the go-to place for good Mexican food, Brickhouse is heaving every night with
hipsters who can't get enough of the tacos made with handcrafted tortillas, and fresh-fish
ceviches. It doesn't take reservations, so swivel a cocktail at the bar (6pm to 2am Monday
to Wednesday, to 4am Thursday to Saturday) and admire the street-art decoration while
you wait. (

Stubbed Out
Smoking has been banned in all bars, restaurants, shopping malls, museums, public transport, even beaches and
parks, in Hong Kong; but you can light up in 'al fresco' areas. Some bars, however, will risk getting fined in or-
der to attract more customers - you know which ones they are by the ashtray nonchalantly left on tables. An ex-
ception to the ban is on cross-border trains to mainland China, where you can smoke in the restaurant car and the
vestibules at either end of the cars, but not in the main seating area.

This snake-soup specialist whips up old Cantonese dishes that are as tantalising as its cel-
ebrated broth, and the packed tables attest to it. Many regulars come just for the
homemade pork-liver sausage infused with rose wine - perfect over a bowl of immaculate
white rice, on a red tablecloth. Booking advised. (
