Getting There
Bus Lothian Buses No 35 runs along the lower part of the Royal Mile from George IV Bridge
to the Palace of Holyroodhouse; No 36 links Princes St to the Scottish Parliament via St Mary's
St and Holyrood Rd. Buses 23, 27, 41 and 42 run along the Mound and George IV Bridge, giving
access to the Royal Mile and Grassmarket (via Victoria St or Candlemaker Row).
The Sights in a Day
Be at Edinburgh Castle ( Click here ) for opening time, and plan on spending
two hours exploring its many attractions before heading downhill along the
Royal Mile, stopping off as the fancy takes you at the Scotch Whisky Experience ( Click
here ) , the Camera Obscura ( Click here ) and Gladstone's Land ( Click here ) . This
will put you in easy reach of Porto & Fi ( Click here ) for lunch.
Continue down the Royal Mile, taking a quick look at St Giles Cathedral (
Click here ) and John Knox House ( Click here ) before taking a tour of either
Real Mary King's Close ( Click here ) or the National Museum of Scotland ( Click here
). Get your photo taken beside the statue of Greyfriars Bobby ( Click here ) and then take
a stroll around Greyfriars Kirkyard, before heading down to the Grassmarket for a drink,
and a look at the shops in atmospheric Victoria St (pictured left).
Book a late dinner at either Ondine ( Click here ) , Witchery by the Castle (
Click here ) or Wedgewood ( Click here ) , and join a ghost tour ( Click here ) of
Greyfriars Kirkyard to work up an appetite. Or dine around 7pm then head to Sandy
Bell's ( Click here ) for some live Scottish folk music.
