Day One
Edinburgh Castle ( Click here ) is the city's number one sight, so if you only
have a day to spare, spend at least the first two hours after opening time here.
Take a leisurely stroll down the Royal Mile, stopping off for a pre-booked tour of the his-
toric Real Mary King's Close ( Click here ) before having lunch at Wedgewood ( Click
here ) or Foodies ( Click here ) .
At the bottom of the Mile, take a one-hour guided tour of the Scottish Parlia-
ment Building ( Click here ) , before crossing the street to the Palace of Ho-
lyroodhouse ( Click here ) . Then, if the weather's fine, take an early-evening stroll along
Radical Road at the foot of Salisbury Crags, or head up the stairs from nearby Calton Rd to
the summit of Calton Hill ( Click here ); both offer superb views across the city.
Round off the day with dinner at a restaurant with a view such as the Tower (
Click here ) . If the weather's not so hot, try somewhere more cosy and romantic,
like Witchery by the Castle ( Click here ) or Ondine ( Click here ) . Either pre- or post-
dinner, try to catch a play at the Traverse Theatre ( Click here ) or scare yourself silly on a
ghost tour of Greyfriars Kirkyard ( Click here ) .
