When to Go
Winter (Dec-Feb) Cold and dark, occasional snow; Christmas decorations, Hogmanay
and Burns Night celebrations.
Spring (Mar-May) Cold to mild, damp, occasional sun; flowers and blossom every-
where.
Summer (Jun-Aug) Mild to warm but occasionally wet; main tourist season, city packed
out for festival in August.
Autumn (Sep-Nov) Mild to chilly, often damp; autumn colours in parks, tourist crowds
have left.
Book Your Stay
Hotels and hostels are found throughout the Old and New Towns; midrange B&Bs and
guesthouses are concentrated outside the centre in the suburbs of Tollcross, Bruntsfield,
Newington and Pilrig.
If you're driving, don't even think about staying in the city centre unless your hotel has its
own private car park - parking in the centre is a nightmare.
