Information on the Komatsugawa Shinsui K en was obtained during a number of
visits and conversations, principally in 1995 with Toyoshima Eiichi, of the Edogawa
Ward Office (29 August) and K zaki Hiroji, president of a local manufacturing
company and chair of the 'Love the Komatsugawa Society' (Komatsugawa shinsui
k en o ai suru kai) (5 September). Additional information was obtained from the ward's
publicity literature.

I interviewed Yanagisawa Hiromichi on 10 December 1996. Yanagisawa showed me
his incubation tanks and supplied me with some of the background information on
the salmon campaign.

The information on which this passage is drawn was obtained from a number of
sources: from Mori Seiwa, a planner and nature enthusiast in Yokohama City
Government, during an interview on 4 December 1996, as well as from Mori's own
publications; from Laurent (1998); and from Morishita Y ko (1995). The
interpretations of information presented here are strictly my own.

Sasaki Nobukichi conducted during visits to the area on 8 September 1995 and 29
