Day typically sought to claim that Ellis, like every other local figure, was his friend,
following an initial encounter at Wheatfen where he had to convince Ellis he was not
doing anything wrong there (Day 1951:56-57; 1953:82; 1967:60).

I recall sitting with friends outside Norwich Library c. 1982 and seeing Ellis walk up
to a tree and contemplate it in great detail; we thought he was a very curious man.

The programme also featured an early performance by Allan Smethurst, later (in)
famous as 'The Singing Postman', singing 'Mind Your Head', detailing the risks of
decapitation when travelling by train.
