well received by FSLN supporters, the lack of transparency of their funding has caused
controversy.
The issue was brought to the forefront by the death of Venezuelan president Hugo
Chavez. Many analysts suggest the Nicaraguan economy is overly dependent on
Venezuelan handouts and changes in policy by a new government in Caracas could have a
devastating impact on the country's economy.
This uncertainty has left ordinary Nicaraguans following the political situation in the
South American country almost as closely as Venezuelans themselves.
