This association of young nature guides is your one-stop ticket to adventure. In addition to
offering a variety of kayaking trips along jungle-clad rivers, it also offers treks through
private nature reserves and night alligator-spotting boat trips (US$15 per person, minim-
um four people).
Other interesting options include a full-day Chocolate Tour (from US$44 per person) to
the Cooprocafuc cacao cooperative in the community of Buena Vista where visitors are
able to observe the entire chocolate-making process.
It's also possible to hire a guide to follow your own itinerary for US$15 per day.
Sleeping & Eating
Basic budget lodging is located in town. Two more-comfortable ecolodges are just down-
stream. Tell the riverboat driver where you're staying and you'll be dropped in the right
spot.
Hospedaje y Comedor Clarissa

wooden home are basic but clean. Pay the extra for the better rooms upstairs with private
bathrooms. Its beef, chicken and pork plate lunches (US$2.50), served on a wide, leafy
patio, are beloved locally.
GUESTHOUSE $
Sábalos Lodge
( 2583-0046; www.sabaloslodge.com ; Muelle, 1km E; d US$35-60) This collection of stilted
thatched bungalows set in one meandering riverside row achieves the Robinson Crusoe
ideal. Each one has an indoor-outdoor living room with two hammocks, a bed swathed in
mosquito netting, and an outdoor shower. The best part: each bungalow has its own per-
sonalized view of the river and offshore island, which is alive with birds at sunset. Meals
run around US$12.

Hotel Sábalos
