GUESTHOUSE $
( 2583-0298; Parque Central, 1c S; r per person without bathroom US$3) Don't expect many
frills (or toilet seats) in this original San Carlos flophouse, but it's cheap and just a block
from the malecón . The rooms are tiny wooden boxes but some have windows with river
views.

Gran Lago Hotel
OFFLINE MAP
( 2583-0075; Parque Central, 1c O, 1c S; s/d incl breakfast US$35/40; ) The four air-con
rooms here are clean and comfortable but don't take advantage of the great lakeside loca-
tion. However, the small rear deck offers great views across to the Archipiélago de
Solentiname and a second floor under construction at the time of research is set to offer
rooms with more natural light.

HOTEL $$
( 2583-0354; leykou7@yahoo.es; Parque Central, 2c O; d with air-con US$50-65, without air-con
US$20-24, all incl breakfast; ) The comfy wooden air-con rooms overlooking the
wetlands at the rear of the hotel are a little overpriced but are the most charming accom-
modations in San Carlos. Avoid the dingy cheaper rooms above reception. The friendly
owners speak English and arrange tours.
Hotel Carelhys

a-block from parque central has a selection of slightly shabby rooms with cable TV and
private bathroom.

Eating & Drinking
The cheapest eats in town are at the cluster of bus-terminal comedores (basic eateries), the
best of which is Comedor Alondra
OFFLINE MAP (meals US$2.50) .
