Set back from a gorgeous sheltered
cove and nestled in the palms is this farm with just two accommodation options. The
smaller one is joined to the main farmhouse and has one bedroom (but two beds) and a
kitchenette, while the larger is a traditional white house with a kitchen and rockers on the
front porch.

Cocal & Iguana Beaches
This side of the island gets a constant breeze which keeps the mosquitoes at bay. Budget
travelers should head to Cocal Beach where there are several similar places side by side.
Take a walk and see which of them appeals. Accommodations here are more basic, but
with a beach like this on your doorstep, you won't be spending much time inside.

Miss Elsa sticks to a win-
ning formula: cheap, comfortable rooms right by the water. There are a variety of thatched
wooden bungalows with private bathrooms and some basic cheapies out the back.

This rocking backpacker
haunt was destroyed by fire just after we passed through, but at press time rebuilding
work was already underway. The location is fantastic and if it's anything like the last ver-
sion, the new place is sure to have a great social vibe.

A little quieter than its neighbors, Carlito's features spartan cabins right on the
beach with firm beds and little porches that are kept cool by ocean-facing windows. The
beach is cleaned regularly and the fine restaurant prepares some great juicy fried chicken,
but the rooms are a little pricey for what you get.
