Waspám (US$6, six hours, 5:30am and 7pm)
BOAT
The only regular boat service to/from Bilwi is the Captain D ( 8850-2767) , which runs
between Corn Island and Bilwi (US$22, 10 to 12 hours) about once a month depending on
demand. Call to check the schedule.

Around Bilwi

Haulover
The first Moravian missionaries arrived here, 30km south of Bilwi, in 1860, and named it
in honor of the sandbar that boats had to cross to enter the lagoon. Protected by Reserva
Natural Laguna Kukalaya and Reserva Natural Layasiksa, the town has comfortable
cabañas (cabins; US$5 per person), seafood meals (US$3) and beautiful views.
There's a pristine, palm-dappled beach, and it's possible to organize performances of
the King Pulanka dance. Collective pangas leave Lamlaya (5km south of Bilwi) around
noon (US$9), and return at 5am daily. A private charter will set you back around US$150.
Wawa
Wawa is a scenic Miskito village 17km south of Bilwi, at the mouth of the Río Wawa.
