Ciudad Darío
POP 20,200 / ELEV 433M
About 5km down a paved turnoff from the highway, and tucked back into the chaparral-
speckled Cordillera Dariense is cute, hilly Ciudad Darío. Follow the spur all the way and
you'll wind up at the leafy parque central.
Buses leave for Managua and Matagalpa every half-hour so there's no reason to spend
the night.

MUSEUM
Casa Natal Rubén Darío
( 2776-3846; admission US$4; 8am-4:30pm Tue-Fri, 9am-4pm Sat & Sun) Two blocks east
of the parque central you'll find the town's primary roadside attraction, where Rubén
Darío was born. Although the baby poet didn't spend more than a few weeks in this sweet
19th-century adobe (this was his aunt's house), the museum is quite cool, with a
mid-1880s kitchen, a Rubén Darío timeline, and a wonderful amphitheater on the grounds
where the museum hosts the rare poetry reading or theater production.
