The center rents some pretty basic rooms (US$30 per person including all meals and
guide service) catering mainly to visiting scientists and students, but upmarket bamboo
huts for travelers are in the pipeline.

This environmentally focused farming cooperative offers a variety of activities
around the reserve including guided treks to the Cascada La Niña waterfall and Mirador
del Sol lookout. It also organizes coffee tours and horseback riding.

basic place run by the Guardianes del Bosque. Rooms are basic wooden boxes with soft
mattresses, but there is hot water and the staff are super friendly. Meals are available
(US$2 to US$3) on-site.

US$40-50; ) You really ought to splurge here at this a 220- manzana coffee finca set
among tracts of cloud forest. In addition to tours of the coffee plantations, there is excel-
lent bird-watching, a fine mariposario (butterfly enclosure) and a ranario (frog enclos-
ure). Day-trippers (admission US$15 including lunch) are welcome to use the 3km of
trails past several waterfalls. Advance reservations are recommended.

Getting There & Away
Buses leave Matagalpa for La Dalia (US$1.25, 1½ hours) almost hourly from 6am to
6pm. To get to Peñas Blancas, take any bus leaving Matagalpa for El Cuá and get off at
'Empalme la Manzana' - the Peñas Blancas turnoff (US$2.25, three hours). There are also
two buses a day from Jinotega to Peñas Blancas. The village is 600m off the main road.
