STEAKHOUSE $$
El Pullaso
(Carretera Managua; dishes US$4-9; 11am-11pm) Matagalpinos love beef and it's no sur-
prise that their steakhouse of choice is El Pullaso, which serves big portions of tender cuts
of meat at bargain prices. Come with an appetite. It's a US$1.50 to US$2 taxi ride from
town.
La Pradera de San Francisco
( 2772-2543; empalme San Ramón; mains US$6.50-10; 11am-11pm) Just a US$2 cab ride
from the city center, this snazzy dining room is where Matagalpa's business elite take
their long lunch hour. You'll be forgiven if you pass on the bull-testicle ceviche; just know
that the sizzling skillets of tender steak and shrimp deliver. There is another, less atmo-
spheric branch, on the highway in town.

some damn good seafood. It smells like a fish market at first, but that's because it receives
