The
Gran Francia's elegance is slightly diminished by a touch of overdecoration. It's a gor-
geous building, though, and the attention to detail is exquisite. Across the road, the res-
taurant, bar and lounge (set in William Walker's former home) are equally impressive, and
well worth a wander for those interested to see just how lovingly an old building can be
restored.

One of Granada's more eccentric offerings, the Casa Capricho
(House of Whimsy in English, more or less) manages to be sprawling and cozy at the
same time. Rooms are extremely comfortable, with hardwood and wrought-iron furniture,
and look out onto small balconies, themselves overlooking the dip pool and lush patio
area.

The lovely smell of wood hits you on entering the lobby, and things
only get better - the house has been lovingly restored and fitted out with authentic fea-
tures like cane inlaid ceilings. The patio of the name is not one but two, both comfortably
appointed with wicker furniture, the back one featuring a pool and bar area.
Rooms are moderately sized and stylish in a minimalist way.

We love the ivy-covered walls, mosaic tiles, Turkish
lamps, cute little balcony sitting areas and stylish decorations in this lovely colonial house
turned nine-bedroom boutique hotel. Mosquito nets add a touch of romance to the rooms,
but the beds are too bowed for this price point. The attached restaurant comes highly re-
commended, and specializes in Mexican cuisine.
