In-Depth Information
Climb the stairs to the top floor, where you'll see a model of a typical family home, as
well as mannequins of the family in period dress. The next room displays the vast range of
nails and spikes that were produced here. A worker was expected to produce 2,000 of these
spikes in one day.
Nearby: The museum's fascinating spike forge (up at the top of town), where you can
watchanactualblacksmithmakingspikesthetraditionalway,costs€1extra.Unfortunately,
it's open almost exclusively for groups with a prior reservation, and because they need to
stoke a real fire, they can't keep it open at other times for walk-in visitors. When you vis-
it, you can try asking the attendant if they happen to have the fires going that day; if so, a
blacksmith may be willing to do a demonstration for you—but no guarantees.
