In-Depth Information
tain evening arrivals don't coordinate well with either the bus or the minibus, so you might
have to wait a while or take a pricey taxi (figure €25-35 to the airport if you call a reputable
company, but more like €42 from the airport—since you have to use the pricey taxi stand
out front).
To Lake Bled: For tips on going from the airport directly to Lake Bled, see here .
The Austrian Alternative: Since Ljubljana's airport is the only one in the country (and
thus charges extremely high taxes and airport fees), many Slovenes prefer to fly out of
Austria. The airport in Klagenfurt (airport code: KLU, also known as “Alpe-Adria Air-
port”), just over the Austrian border to the north, is subsidized by the local government
to keep prices low and compete with Ljubljana's airport. Especially if you're connect-
ing to Bled, it's somewhat handy to reach (from Ljubljana or Bled, take the train to Vil-
lach, then to Klagenfurt's Annabichl station, which is a 5-minute walk from the airport;
total trip 3 hours from Ljubljana, or 2 hours from Bled; www.klagenfurt-airport.com ) .
A taxi transfer to Bled runs a hefty €120 and takes about an hour (see “By Taxi” on
here ). Austrian Airlines ( www.austrian.com ) flies from Klagenfurt, as do low-cost car-
riers such as Ryanair ( www.ryanair.com ), TUIfly ( www.tuifly.com ) , and Germanwings
( www.germanwings.com ) .
