Nightlife in Mostar
Be sure to enjoy the local scene after dark in Mostar. Though the town is touristy, it's also
a real urban center with a young population riding a wave of raging hormones. The meat
market in the courtyard next to the old Turkish bathhouse near the TI is fun to observe. The
Old Bridge is a popular meeting place for locals as well as tourists (and pickpockets). A

Square at the far end of town (described earlier) gives a great peek at Mostarians socializ-
ing away from the tourists. Wherever you wind up, order a cocktail or try a Turkish-style
hubbly-bubbly( šiša, SHEE-shah). Asktohaveoneofthese bigwater pipes firedupforyou
and choose your flavored tobacco: apple, cappuccino, banana, or lemon.
Ali Baba is an actual cave featuring a fun, atmospheric, and youthful party scene. While
this place has gone in and out of business over the past few years, it's worth checking to see
if it's open to enjoy a drink in a unique and very cool space (look for low-profile entrance
along Coppersmiths' Street, just down from the Old Bridge—watch for signs tucked down
a rocky alley).
