From Cetinje Back to the Coast
To avoid backtracking down the same twisty road you came up, consider heading more dir-
ectly back toward the coast from Cetinje. Just follow signs for
Budva
. A few miles outside
of Cetinje along this road, look for the good
Restoran Konak,
which serves up tasty tradi-
tional dishes with indoor and outdoor seating (open long hours daily, tel. 041/761-011).
Continuing along this road, you'll pop out high above the
Budva Riviera.
Looking out
to sea, you'll spot the distinctive peninsula of Sveti Stefan off to the left, and the town of
Budva to the right. If you have even more time, linger along the coast to visit these sights
(described next). Otherwise, head right to return to Kotor or Dubrovnik.
Montenegrins boast,“Croatia'sgotislands, butwe'vegotbeaches!” Longswaths ofcoarse-
sand and fine-pebble beaches surround the resort town of Budva, just south of Kotor. This
15-mile stretch of coast, called the “Budva Riviera,” is unappealingly built up, with endless
strings of cheap resort hotels (and quite a few new five-star ones)—making it pale in com-
