In-Depth Information
Art Nouveau Slavic pride of the Czech painter Alfons Mucha, who was Bukovac's contem-
porary. The ground floor displays photos of his early life; upstairs you'll find old furniture,
early sketches, and portraits of Bukovac and his family (the painting of his children's dis-
embodied heads hanging on the wall is macabre but strangely tender). The top floor houses
one big atelier room filled with canvases from various periods, allowing you to survey his
impressive artistic development with a sweep of the head. Throughout the house are murals
painted by Bukovac in his early days, offering a glimpse of a burgeoning artist who would
go on to make Cavtat very proud.
