go left up ulica Don Iva Bjelokosi ć a (more steps) until you see a little church on the left.
The Benussis' house is just before this church.
Beyond the Ploče Gate, East of the Old Town
To reach these options, you'll go through the Plo č e Gate and walk along the road stretching
east from the Old Town (with fine views back on the Old Port). This area is shared by giant
waterfrontluxuryhotelsandresidentialareas,soithasabitlesscharacterthantheOldTown
listings (which I prefer).
$$$ Apartments Paviša, described on here , has two fine apartments in the Viktorija
neighborhood about a 20-minute walk or short bus ride from town.
$$$ Villa Adriatica is overpriced, but has one of the finest views in Dubrovnik. Its four
old-fashioned rooms sit above a travel agency and a family home just outside the Plo č e
Gate, a few steps from the Old Town. The rooms are antique-furnished, but have modern
bathrooms, TVs, and air-conditioning. While impersonal and a lesser value than my other
listings, it could be worth it just for the huge, shared terrace with priceless Old Port views,
plus a common living room and kitchen furnished with museum-piece antiques. Teo man-
ages the rooms; ask for him at the Perla Adriatic travel agency, just outside the Plo č e Gate

Hotels
If you must stay in a hotel, you have only a few good options. There are just two hotels
inside the City Walls—and one of them charges $500 a night (Puci ć Palace,
www.thepucicpalace.com ). Any big, resort-style hotel within walking distance of the Old
Town will run you at least €200. These inflated prices drive most visitors to Boninovo Bay
or the Lapad Peninsula, a bus ride west of the Old Town. In the mass-tourism tradition,
many European visitors choose to take the half-board option at their hotel (i.e., dinner in
the hotel restaurant). This can be convenient and a good value, but the Old Town is a much
more atmospheric place to dine.
In and near the Old Town
$$$ Hotel Stari Grad knows it's the only real hotel option inside the Old Town—and
charges accordingly. It has eight extremely stylish rooms a half-block off the Old Town's
main drag. The rooftop terrace enjoys an amazing view over orange tiles. This place books
up fast, so reserve early (Sb-€220/€160/€120, Db-€290/€230/€168, no extra charge for 1-
or 2-night stays, includes breakfast, air-con, lots of stairs with no elevator, free Wi-Fi, Od
