Travel Reference
In-Depth Information
places may be shuffled, somewhat arbitrarily, between multiple classifications (“Hotels,”
“B&Bs and Inns,” “Specialty Lodging,” and “Vacation Rentals”)—making it difficult to
compare apples toapples. While these sites are useful asasecond opinion, I'vefoundmany
of their top-ranked places to be mysteriously lackluster in person...making me suspicious
about the reliability of crowdsourced review sites. And remember: Even if you find your
accommodations on one of these sites, you'll always get a better deal if you book directly.
As a last resort, you can enlist the help of a travel agency on the ground to find you a
room—but you'll pay 10-30 percent extra.
