you owe it to them to show up.
If you like to travel spontaneously, during most of the year you'll have no problem find-

home. Be sure you understand exactly where it's located (i.e., within easy walking distance
of the attractions) before you accept. Because Europeans tend to dramatically lowball walk-
ing estimates, ask to see the location on a map.
You can also keep an eye out for rooms as you walk or drive through town—you'll see

signs everywhere. It's actually fun to visit a few homes and make
a deal. While it takes nerve to just show up without a room, this is standard operating pro-
cedure for many backpackers.
