al peasants leave their homes behind and move into Italy proper—one reason many of these
townsarestillinsuchdisrepair.Stumblingovercobblesbetweendesolatebuildingsinavil-
lage that once must have been humming with life, you may find yourself thinking about the
sadness that comes with cultural population shifts.
