In-Depth Information
Gabreku is every local's top recommendation for good Samobor cooking. It's at the far
end of town, a quick drive or 15-minute walk from the main square. The menu includes
the Samobor classics described above, a delicious mushroom soup, veal brains and liver,
and plenty of other (mostly meat-centric) options (30-60-kn starters, 50-90-kn main dishes,
daily 12:00-24:00, free parking across the street, to walk from the main square head upriver
on the path after the covered bridge then cross the second bridge, Starogradska 46, tel. 01/
336-0722, www.gabrek.hr ).
Pri Staroj Vuri (“By the Old Clock”) has a similar menu of regional dishes, as well
as homemade štrukli (cheese ravioli). It has a traditional interior with a wall of namesake
old clocks and a fine outdoor terrace in a tranquil garden (30-45-kn pastas, 65-100-kn main
dishes, Giznik 2, tel. 01/336-0548). From the small fountain at the intersection near the end
of the church, head uphill for a couple of blocks, veering right at the fork (about a five-
minute walk from the square).
Samoborska Klet (“Samobor Cellar”) is the most convenient option, tucked in a court-
yard on the main square, with a meaty menu, a modern dining room, and a more rustic
tavern in the back, but no seating on the square itself (55-110-kn meals, daily 8:00-23:00,
Trg Kralja Tomislava 7, tel. 01/332-6536).
