Takenoko, in the glitzy modern shopping mall at the very top end of Tkal č i ć eva, is a
good chance for high-quality pan-Asian (mostly Japanese) cuisine with a pinch of Mediter-
ranean fusion. The classy atmosphere and stiff service make it feel like a splurge. Choose
between their sushi menu (105-185-kn combos) and their Asian fusion menu (105-130-kn
dishes). Reservations are advised (Mon-Sat 12:00-24:00, Sat 12:00-18:00, in Centar Kaptol

At the Market (Dolac): Zagreb's busy market offers plenty of options (Mon-Fri
7:00-15:00, Sat 7:00-14:00, Sun 7:00-13:00). Assemble a fresh picnic direct from the pro-
ducers; for pointers on local ingredients to look for, see here . Or, for something already pre-
pared, duck into one of the many cheap restaurants and cafés on the streets around the mar-
ket. The middle level of the market, facing Jela č i ć Square, is home to a line of places with
cheap food and indoor or outdoor seating.
Dessert: The Cookie Factory has a wide array of delicious American-style cookies,
brownies, smoothies, and other goodies. Pull up a table for a brownie à la mode, or get a
cookie sandwich to go. They have outdoor tables along a delightful stretch of Tkal č i ć eva.
