In-Depth Information
Boat rides are cheap for deck passengers. A short hop, such as from Split to the island
of Hvar or Kor č ula, costs around $5-10 on most boats (strangely, the faster catamarans are
usuallycheaperthantheslowcarferries).Foralongertrip,suchasfromSplittoDubrovnik,
figure $20. It's about $65 for a car and driver to ride the ferry from Split to Dubrovnik (less
for shorter trips).
Advance reservations are not necessary for walk-on passengers on car ferries; you can
almost always find a seat on the deck or in the onboard café. However, the catamarans can
fill up, and it's typically not possible to buy tickets a day or more in advance. If you're here
at a busy time, it's worth going out of your way to buy your catamaran tickets early in the
day.Askaroundlocally(attheTI,your soba host,ortheboatticketoffice)tofindoutwhere
tickets are sold, what time they go on sale, and how early you should line up to snare one.
Because all boats have open seating, it's smart to show up 30-60 minutes before departure
time to get a good seat.
