While enjoying the view, ponder this legend: In the 15th century, a nobleman named
Erasmus killed the emperor's cousin in a duel. He was imprisoned under Ljubljana Castle
and spent years nursing a grudge. When he was finally released, he used his castle—buried
deepinsidethecaveabovethiscurrentversion—asahomebaseforaseriesofRobinHood-
style raids on the local nobility and merchants. (Actually, Erasmus stole from the rich and
kept for himself—but that was good enough to make him a hero to the peasants, who hated
the nobles.)
