Land & Wildlife
Even 'city people' will have to admit that some of the best parts of Guatemala are in
the countryside. The ever-changing terrain takes in the balmy coast, the harsh high-
lands, cool cloud forest, lush jungle and desert-like savannah. Many animals have,
quite frankly, been eaten, but there are still enough exotic critters and creatures
around to keep most wildlife-spotters happy.
Tajumulco (4220m), west of Quetzaltenango, is the highest peak in Central America. La Torre (3837m),
north of Huehuetenango, is the highest nonvolcanic peak in Central America.
