people), and Tikal (Q490). Prices include an English-speaking guide and lunch but not ad-
mission to site. Horizontes Mayas ( Click here ) has slightly cheaper tours and runs collect-
ive excursions to Yaxhá at 6:30am and 1pm (Q100 per person, minimum three people).

near the village's main junction is a superior deal, with spotless, wood- fragrant rooms
featuring newly tiled showers and handcrafted mosquito nets! The cobbled courtyard has
inviting little nooks with tree log seats.

excellent-value homey guesthouse. Rear units are best, with lake views through well-
screened windows. It's a short stroll to the public beach.
Hotel Las Gardenias $

north shore road, this cordial hotel/restaurant/shuttle operator has two sections: the wood-
paneled rooms at the front are bigger, those in the rear are appealingly removed from the
road. All feature comfortable beds with woven spreads, attractively tiled showers and
porches with hammocks.

cottages all make the most of their perch, with wraparound windows and front lounges
overlooking the lake. Peacocks strut around the landscaped grounds, which feature a pool
with hammocks under nearby palapa shelters, and a reasonably priced restaurant-bar.
