Maya Expeditions ( Click here ) , based in Guatemala City, offers exciting one- to five-day
rafting expeditions on the Río Cahabón.
Guatemala Rafting

variety of trips on offer, including kayaking on the river beneath Semuc Champey. Travel-
ers heading for Río Dulce or Flores may be interested in the two-day Adventure Route trip
(from Q1380 per person), which takes you down the Río Cahabón and out to Hwy 13.

ADETES
( 5069-3518; www.guaterafting.com ) This excellent community-tourism initiative is based in
Aldea Saquijá, 12km out of Lanquín. It offers rafting trips led by well-trained community
members on the Río Cahabón. Prices range from Q160 to Q355 per person for a two- to
five-hour trip. To get to the headquarters, catch any bus leaving Lanquín headed towards
Cahabón.

Zephyr Lodge $

party hostel is all class - great rooms with spectacular views, OK dorms and some good
hangout areas, including the big thatched-roof bar/restaurant. The river's a five-minute
walk downhill.

Q150/180; ) This sublimely located hotel is about 500m along the road beyond
Rabin Itzam. Dorm rooms have only four beds. Individual decor includes some clever use
of tiles, shells, strings of beads and local fabrics. Palapa (shelter with a thatched, palm-
leaf roof and open sides) look down over the greenest of green fields to a beautiful wide
river - the same one that flows out from the Lanquín caves.
It's safe to swim, and to inner-tube if you're a confident swimmer.
