The town center is 4km northeast of the Inter-americana, and the bus station is off the
road linking the two, about 2km from each. An Inguat ( 5768-7078; Parque Central; 8am-noon
& 2-5pm) office is reportedly inside the municipalidad though it seems seldom occupied.
Banco Industrial (6a Av 1-26) , a block west of the main plaza, has a reliable ATM. Milenium
Multimedia (4a Av 1-54;
8am-6pm Mon-Sat & 9am-1pm Sun) offers internet access.
Getting There & Away
The bus terminal is in Zona 4, 2km southwest of the plaza along 6a Calle. A number of
companies ply the same routes, though information is not posted in any coherent fashion.
Microbuses leave from the south end of the station. Another stop, for microbuses to
Cobán and Barrillas, via Soloma and San Mateo Ixtatán, is by a gas station at El Calvario,
at the corner of 1a Av and 1a Calle, four blocks northeast of the Parque Central.
Antigua Take a Guatemala City bus and change at Chimaltenango.
Aguacatán (Q8, one hour) Microbuses every 15 minutes.
Barrillas (Q50, seven hours) Microbuses hourly from 4:30am to 2:30pm.
Cobán (Q70, six hours) Microbus at 1:40pm daily from El Calvario gas station.
Gracias a Dios (Mexican border) (Q30, four hours) Four departures daily via Nentón.
Guatemala City (Q60, five hours) Various lines leave continuously until about 4pm, in-
cluding Transportes El Condor, Díaz Álvarez and Velásquez. Two lines run Pullman buses
from their own private terminals: Transportes Los Halcones ( 7765-7986;
www.transportesloshalcones.com ; 10a Av 9-12, Zona 1) (Q65) leaves at least five times a day, with de-
luxe service at 7am and 2pm; Linea Dorada (
7768-1566; www.lineadorada.com.gt ; 8a Calle 8-70) de-
parts at 11pm (Q110).
La Mesilla (Q20, 2½ hours) Every 30 minutes from 3am to 6pm.
Nebaj Take a bus to Sacapulas from where there are frequent microbuses to Nebaj.
Panajachel Take a Guatemala City bus and change at Los Encuentros.
Quetzaltenango (Q20, two hours) Every 15 minutes from 3am to 6pm.
Sacapulas (Q20, two hours) Microbuses at 11:30am and 1pm.
Santa Cruz del Quiché (Q25, two hours) Frequent microbuses from 5am to 5pm.
