outfit are foreign volunteers (and experienced trekkers can join their ranks). Based at the
Casa Argentina hotel, they provide both monetary and logistical support for various social
projects.
Two-day hikes to Fuentes Georginas and Pico Zunil (Q400 per person), three-day trips
to Lago de Atitlán (Q600) and six-day treks to Nebaj (Q1100) run on a weekly basis;
check the calendar to see when they go. Also offered are rock-climbing expeditions to La
Muela, a pilgrimage site in the Almolonga Valley where rock pillars rise out of an extinct
lava field.
Cycling
Biking is a great way to explore the surrounding countryside or commute to Spanish class.
Fuentes Georginas, San Andrés Xecul and the steam vents at Los Vahos are all attainable
day trips.

Language Courses
Quetzaltenango's many language schools attract students from around the world. Unlike
Antigua, it isn't overrun with foreigners, though there is a growing social scene revolving
around language students and volunteer workers.
Most schools provide opportunities to get involved in social action programs working
with the local K'iche' Maya. The standard weekly price is Q920/1050 for four/five hours
of instruction per day, Monday to Friday. Add around Q330 for room and board with a
