BOAT
Passenger boats for Santiago Atitlán (35 minutes) depart from the Playa Pública (public
beach) at the foot of Calle Rancho Grande. All other departures leave from the Embarcadero
Tzanjuyú , at the foot of Calle del Embarcadero. Frequent canopied lanchas (small motor-
boats) go counterclockwise around the lake, with direct and local service to San Pedro La
Laguna. The local services stop in Santa Cruz La Laguna (15 minutes), Jaibalito,
Tzununá, San Marcos La Laguna (30 minutes), San Juan La Laguna and San Pedro La la-
guna (45 minutes). The last boat departs around 7:30pm. To San Lucas Tolimán, there are
five boats daily between 8:30am and 5:30pm.
One-way passage to San Pedro, Santiago or San Lucas costs Q25 (though local inhabit-
ants are charged less). Lanchas are also available for private hire from the Playa Pública
or Embarcadero Tzanjuyú: expect to pay around Q400 to San Pedro La Laguna.
BUS
Panajachel's main bus stop is at the junction of Calles Santander and Principal, immediately
west of the Centro Comercial El Dorado. Café La Parada (Centro Comercial El Dorado; OFFLINE MAP
GOOGLE MAP 6am-7pm; ) , inside the little shopping center, can give you the general
picture on bus schedules. Departures - approximately and subject to change - are as fol-
lows:
Antigua A direct Pullman bus (Q45, 2½ hours, 146km) by Transportes Rébuli departs at
11am Monday to Saturday. Or take a Guatemala City bus and change at Chimaltenango.
Chichicastenango Six buses (Q20, 1½ hours, 37km) depart between 6:30am and 6pm
daily. Or take any bus heading to Los Encuentros and change buses there.
Ciudad Tecún Umán (Mexican border) By the Pacific route (220km), take a bus to
Cocales and change there; by the highland route (204km), transfer at Quetzaltenango.
Cocales (Carretera al Pacífico) Buses en route from Chichicastenango to Nueva Con-
cepción stop at Cocales (Q15, 2½ hours, 65km), passing through Pana five times daily
between 5:45am and 3pm.
Guatemala City Eight departures daily (3½ hours, 150km) from 4:30am to 4:45pm. The
11am departure is a Pullman (Q45), the rest are chicken buses (Q35). Or take a bus to Los
Encuentros and change there.
Huehuetenango (3½ hours, 140km) Take a bus to Los Encuentros then wait for a Hue-
hue- or La Mesilla-bound bus. Or catch one heading to Quetzaltenango, alight at Cuatro
Caminos and change buses there. There are buses at least hourly from these junctions.
