Drinking
The bar scene jumps, especially on Friday and Saturday evenings when the hordes roll in
from Guatemala City for some Antigua-style revelry. While the nationwide mandate that
all bars close at 1am puts a damper on things, keep your eye out for flyers advertising
'after parties', unauthorized events in people's homes. Besides the watering holes, the res-
taurants Fridas and Bistrot Cinq are at least as popular for the cocktails as the cuisine.

Clara convent is the best place to savor the region's wondrous coffee, with beans from the
acclaimed Finca Filadelfia. The cakes and pies are dandy, too.

Antigua's Irish pub packs them in from afternoon onwards during its exten-
ded happy hour (noon to 7pm). The music is loud, the pub grub tasty and the Guinness
pricey, at Q66. The Monday evening trivia quiz (7pm) is a pretty big deal.
