In-Depth Information
the ancient city and even here the remnants consist chiefly of grassy mounds. To the left
from the entrance is La Acrópolis, where you can inspect excavations of a ball court and
talud-tablero buildings from AD 450 to 550.
A couple of hundred meters south of the entrance and across the road are two burial
statues from the late Preclassic period. They're badly deteriorated, but are the only ex-
amples of carving left at the site - the best examples have been moved to the new Museo
Nacional de Arqueología y Etnología ( Click here ) .
You can get here by bus No 35 from 4a Av, Zona 1, but check that the bus is going to
the ruinas de Kaminaljuyú - not all do (and city buses are not really recommended). A
taxi from Zona 1 costs around Q50.
GUATEMALA CITY FOR CHILDREN
Guatemala City has enough children's attractions to make it worth considering as an outing from Antigua if you
have kids to please. The Museo de los Niños and La Aurora Zoo, conveniently over the road from each other in
Zona 13, top the list. Kids might also relish the dead animals in various states of preservation at the nearby Museo
Nacional de Historia Natural Jorge Ibarra. It shouldn't be too hard to find some food that the littl'uns are willing
to eat at the food courts in the Centro Comercial Los Próceres ( Click here ) or Oakland Mall ( Click here ), where
everyone can also enjoy a little air-con and shopping (window or otherwise). At Oakland Mall you'll also find the
restaurant Nais OFFLINE MAP GOOGLE MAP ( ; Oakland Mall, Diagonal 6 13-01, Zona 10; mains Q40-120;

ally, cleaning the tank and feeding the fish) filled with tropical fish.
On Sundays, kids and adults will enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and abundant free entertainment on offer at
Pasos y Pedales.
The Mapa en Relieve ( Click here ), too, amuses most ages, and there are a few swings and climbing frames in
the adjacent park.
