that originated during an abnormal mitotic cell division.
Meiosis
In humans, this process reduces the 46 chromosome number of the diploid
precursor cell to the 23 chromosomes of the haploid gamete. During meio-
sis, there is one round of DNA duplication followed by two divisions: mei-
osis I and meiosis II . Meiosis only occurs in the germ cells (sperm and egg).
