In-Depth Information
Liquor
Liquor can't be sold in stores on Sundays, although you can buy drinks in
hotels and restaurants on that day. The legal drinking age in the Cayman
Islands is 18.
Marriage
Getting married in the Cayman Islands is a simple process. Non-residents
need to arrange in advance for a Marriage Officer and must apply for a spe-
cial marriage license (US $200) at the Chief Secretary's office, Fourth
Floor, Room 406, Government Administration Building, George Town,
345-949-7900. You can get a free copy of the brochure, Getting Married
in the Cayman Islands , by writing to Government Information Services,
Broadcasting House, Grand Cayman,
345-949-8092, fax 345-949-5936.
Procedures
You must contact the Chief Secretary's office at the address listed above
before your visit to obtain an application and the name of a Marriage Offi-
cer (who will need to be named on your application). You'll then complete
the form with your names, occupations, permanent addresses, and your
temporary address while staying in the Cayman Islands (no residency pe-
riod is required). You will also need to present the following:
Valid passports or birth certificates verifying that you are at
least 18 years of age (the minimum age for marriage without
parental consent).
The original (or a certified copy) divorce decree or death certifi-
cate, if applicable.
A letter from the authorized Marriage Officer who will officiate
at your ceremony.
A Cayman Islands International Immigration Department pink
slip showing proof of entry. Or, for cruise passengers, a board-
ing pass. If you are arriving on a cruise ship, have the purser
call ahead to the ship's agent for assistance.
Two witnesses.
Catholic Ceremonies
The Marriott can also arrange Catholic wedding ceremonies in a Catholic
church. The couple must first go to their own priest for pre-nuptial require-
ments and fax the required paperwork from the church to the priest in
Grand Cayman. (Original copies of the paperwork must be given to the
priest upon arrival.) Certificates of baptism are also required along with a
letter from the home priest, which grants permission to the Grand Cay-
man priest to perform the ceremony.
