In-Depth Information
Eats , Falls Shopping Center, across from the Westin Casuarina,
345-
945-5288, $$. The first time we dined at Eats, we were staying at the
Westin Casuarina and were on the lookout for a place within walking dis-
tance (it was our first night on the island and we weren't looking forward to
tackling left lane driving in the darkness). We scooted across West Bay
Road to Eats and quickly discovered one of our favorite casual restaurants
in the region. This eatery, decorated with movie memorabilia in a diner at-
mosphere, is a favorite with locals and residents. We enjoyed quesadillas
and old fashioned burgers that first trip, but other dishes are equally
tempting: chicken fajitas, catch of the day, shepherd's pie, stir fry, hot
sandwiches, and more.
Legendz , Falls Shopping Center, across from the Westin Casuarina,
345-949-6887, $$. Legendz adjoins Eats (above) and the atmosphere is a
little more adult, with quieter booths where you can enjoy a brew and a
conversation while dining on the same menu as found next door.
Asian
Canton Chinese Restaurant , The Strand on West Bay Road,
345-
945-3536, $. This five-star restaurant serves Cantonese and Szechwan
dishes (with a menu that includes over 100 choices; save some time for
this!). The restaurant is elegant, although take-out service is also avail-
able. Open for lunch and dinner daily, the restaurant closes between 3 and
5 pm. Reservations suggested.
Thai Orchid , Queens Court Plaza, West Bay Road,
345-949-7955, $$.
Chefs from Thailand cook authentic dishes at this popular restaurant,
which serves lunch and dinner. Traditional dishes such as pad Thai, khaw
phad (fried rice with meat), pla tod lad pnk (deep-fried fish topped with
chili sauce), and ped phad khing (duck stir-fried with ginger and vegeta-
bles) are also accompanied by many vegetarian dishes.
Golden Pagoda , West Bay Road across from the Marriott,
345-949-
5475, $-$$. This casual restaurant serves Hakka-style cuisine with no
MSG. Lunch is served weekdays and the daily luncheon buffet is a favorite
with many locals. Dinner is served daily, and take-out is available.
Bars & Pubs
Big Daddy's , Queen's Court Plaza,
345-949-8511, $-$$. This micro-
brewery has both a restaurant (indoor) and a bar, and is open for break-
fast, lunch and dinner. Entrées are a far cry from pub grub; look for seafood
linguine, New York sirloin, fajitas, burgers, pizza, and more. This is the is-
land's only real microbrewery, so save room to sample the pub's product.
Fidel Murphy's Irish Pub , Queens Court Plaza, West Bay Road,
345-
949-5189, $$. You'll think you're in jolly old Ireland with a look at this pub
menu: Irish stew, smoked salmon salad, mussels, fish and chips, chicken
