you're striking out on your own. We've also included the names and num-
bers of many operators who specialize in hikes and walks. Most can add a
lot to the experience, pointing out unique flora and fauna as well as the
area's history along the way.
ON WHEELS: Along with scenic drives, this section includes cycling tours
on each island. Again, remember that in Cayman driving is on the left. Cy-
clists will find busy traffic conditions along Seven Mile Beach, but miles of
quiet drives on the east end of Grand Cayman and on the sister islands.
Note that Cayman follows the British tradition
of driving on the left side of the road, so when
crossing streets be sure to look right.
IN THE WATER: Scuba diving is an important feature of many vaca-
tions. In each chapter, we've covered the special aspects of that area's div-
ing scene, including everything from wreck diving and wall dives, to reef
dives. Top scuba sites for all abilities, from beginner to advanced, are of-
fered, along with a list of scuba operators. We also cover snorkeling
destinations.
ON THE WATER: Watersports abound, from sailing to windsurfing to
kayaking. Unique opportunities are offered; some require skill and train-
ing, others can be learned in a simple lesson onshore. Fishing is another fa-
vorite pastime, and we cover that, too.
IN THE AIR: Hop in a prop plane and buzz over the islands for a unique
way to tour. Parasailing along Seven Mile Beach is also a fun activity for
the daredevil set.
ON HORSEBACK: For some travelers, a ride down the beach makes for
a perfect afternoon activity.
ECO-TRAVEL: This section covers everything from birding to nature
walks with do-it-yourself information as well as guided tours.
CULTURAL EXCURSIONS: Learn more about Cayman's unique cul-
ture, from its pirate history to its Welsh settlers to its days as a turtling
capital. We'll explain more about the history and special features of the
unique communities found along Cayman's roadsides.
RECREATION: Facilities for golf and tennis are covered on each island.
SIGHTSEEING: Museums, historic forts, historic homes, and more are
covered in this section.
